With NBA 2K21, you simply know what you are getting into--a basketball simulation together with the presentation chops, star power, and NBA 2K MT gameplay mechanics to embody the sport on a skilled and cultural level. You know you will build a customized player to experience a story that leads into a full career and take to the roads and rec center for pick up games. You know that you can perform a management sim through MyGM or build a working fantasy team via card packs in MyTeam. And you also understand all too well about the plot of VC that looms over all of it, which remains among the prominent offenders of intrusive microtransactions. Now, NBA 2K21 suggests that the franchise is outside of surprises. It comes with a strong suite of manners, but despite minor remixing year in, year out, the annual releases are beginning to blend together (if they have not already). Mechanics get minor tweaks or additions, but mostly remain untouched. Therefore, for all those embedded at the 2K cycle, you understand what the deal is, but because this year's game varies things mostly on a surface level, it's hard to be excited about yet another entry. Don't get me wrong, as a basketball fan who embraced the culture as a wee lad and cherishes street basketball memories from back home, I am still a bit in awe of how well the game has translated into video game form (I said as much in my NBA 2K19 review). And that does not only come from the player likenesses, character creation tools, or the broadcast-style demonstration; it's an issue of the core gameplay, too. Dribble moves with the right pole offer nearly full control of ball handling. It can feel somewhat cluttered having so many actions mapped to marginally different moves on just one rod, as errant inputs can occasionally have you pull a pump-fake rather than the crossover you planned. But in the event that you can master a few important moves, you'll be at an advantage for chances to drive to the basket or enhance shot contesting. The same goes for making the correct moves in the post-game to get under defenders or get positioning . All these are staples of Buy 2K MT for quite some time.
